This multiple award winning project for The Royal Academy of Art was completed in 1991. The objective of the project was to tie the historic grade 1 listed Burlington House and its major gallery spaces together with new galleries on the roof and the larger Victorian galleries to the North. The solution was to re-invent the neglected light well space connecting all three elements as a dramatic translucent glazed vertical gallery; complete with delicately engineered glazed link bridges, a staircase and elevator, also providing access to a new and more intimate setting for Michelangelo’s Tondo of the virgin and child.
