A rooftop extension provides six new apartments above an existing Victorian Warehouse located in South Hoxton London. This double storey extension is expressed as a ‘crown’ which tops the base building. Textured elevations which come about through a saw-tooth cladding profile, provide a three dimensionality which acts as a counterpoint to the monolithic bulk of the base building.
The apartments, designed to Lifetime Homes standards, are a mix of 1 bed, 2 bed and 3 bed units plus a generous communal roof top garden. Passive design measures such as high thermal performance and natural ventilation are incorporated along with green roofs and photovoltaic panels. The design strives for a high degree of natural light in the apartments by way of projecting glazed bay windows and roof lights.Back to Projects Back to Ross Kerr
